Apparently further education college boards and chief executives have been keen to adopt Japanese working practices such as loyalty tests, unlimited working hours, corporate badges and logos.
“Now that the Japanese economy is on the brink of a major recession, another interesting custom is being observed. Where a company fails, rather than giving the chief executive yet another huge pay increase, the CEO is expected to commit suicide.
“We will watch with interest to see how enthusiastically this latest development is embraced by our hitherto orientally obsessed boards of management.”
