SHE’s used to fighting all sorts of baddies and beasties, but this week actress and model Nell McAndrew took on the full might of the gremlins.
Former page 3 “stunner” Ms McAndrew - the original Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider computer game - launched the second phase of the Government’s “Get On” campaign. This is a 12-week television and radio advertising campaign aimed at the seven milion adults in the UK with basic reading, writing and maths needs.
In the first phase the gremlins appeared to mock people with basic skills difficulties, causing some to question the approach of the ads. Nevertheless they generated 50,000 calls from people who needed help.
In the new ads the tables are turned as previously taunted adults overcome the gremlins and fight back, as a result of their improved literacy and numeracy skills.
Adult skills minister John Healey said: “We hope this new burst of advertising will prompt even more people to enrol on one of the thousands of free courses available across the country to help them to improve their skills, which in turn can improve their career and job prospects.”
Ms McAndrew has no problem with figures. Outside her acting and promotional work she is best known for her boob job taking her from a B-cup to a D-cup.
