SWINGS AND SHADOWS. Edited by Anne Harvey. Red Fox pound;5.99.
It’s lovely to have in paperback one of the most purely enjoyable anthologies of recent years. Harvey is the doyenne of “anthologisers” - a word she defines as a magpie collector of poems.
The book follows an autobiographical pattern and on every page you’ll come across a treasure - a poem you knew long ago and have forgotten, or something new and wonderful.
Harvey says she is forever quoting poetry and, with her help, many children may be led to read and perhaps memorise these favourites.
