FRANCE Regional disparities in education which a decade ago set apart the higher-achieving South from the North and East have disappeared, according to a new report which shows the higher regional scores of passes at baccalaureat level in 1994 were in Brittany in the extreme North-west, and in the Limousin, in central France.
The survey, Geographie de l’ecole, examines pupils’ achievement through age groups and their subsequent employment rate.
Numbers passing the bac continue to increase, shows another new study, which reveals an overall pass rate last summer of 75 per cent.
