* British children are taking to the Internet in droves, with the number of users rising by 12 percentage points to 43 per cent in just six months, writes Chris Johnston.

More than 3 million under 17s are now surfing the Net, according to a survey by NOP. Using the Net to help with school work is still one of the most popular activities, with 79 per cent of young users believing that it helps them to learn.
