THE Government is being told it should do more to ensure training for further education lecturers meets the same standards as that of schoolteachers.

The decision to introduce minimum teacher-training standards in colleges is welcomed by the Universities Council for the Education of Teachers. However, it warns that the qualifications framework should not be left to the FE sector itself.

He said the Department for Education and Employment should play a “fuller part” in making sure there are proper comparisons with school teachers’ qualifications.
