ITALY: The national consumers’ association is challenging the right of primary teachers to set essay questions such as “What I did at the weekend” without first gaining parental consent.
The association has asked an independent watchdog to rule on whether such assignments breach privacy laws.
This is not the first time the consumers’ association has turned its attention to schools. A couple of years ago it hit the headlines when it blitzed middle schools in Rome with flying inspections to draw attention to the large number of teachers illegally smoking in the corridors.
