Can’t wait for the sequel

So one of education secretary for England Michael Gove’s favourite films is Educating Rita (“Rose-tinted spectacles and the silver screen”, Editorial, 22 November). This ends with Rita becoming disillusioned with the pretensions and posturing of academic life, while her tutor leaves for Australia on a sabbatical. What about producing a sequel where Rita becomes an English teacher and her tutor becomes education secretary for England? In it Rita becomes disillusioned with the pretensions and posturing of education politics and her former tutor leaves for Australia, not on a sabbatical but permanently. Don’t forget the quote from last week’s editorial: “Remember, Red, hope is a good thing... And no good thing ever dies.”
