The anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar may have passed, but there’s still an opportunity to celebrate with an excellent song cycle for pupils at KS2. Paul Partington’s “I See No Ships”, originally performed by schools in Salford, deserves much wider currency. The mood appropriately shifts between cheerfulness and melancholy. There’s a biographical summary, a shanty-like account of life on board, a romantic ballad about Lady Hamilton, a brisk narrative of the great battle, a moving funeral march and a final look at Admiral Lord Nelson’s undying fame.
