Compaq has landed the UK’s biggest-ever laptop deal for schools. It is supplying 4,500 computers worth more than pound;5 million to teachers in Northern Ireland’s 1,300 schools. The machines, which come with Windows 2000 and 24-hour service from support firm Sx3, wil support teachers in the province’s Classroom 2000 plan to connect every school to the Internet. The contract was awarded after six-month’s tendering. Compaq, the world’s biggest computer manufacturer, provided 1,300 laptops for the pound;2 million pilot.
