There may be no chance of faith schools “disappearing off the radar” (Letters, TES July 18) for now, just as there was no chance of getting rid of corporal punishment when STOPP, the campaign for its abolition, was founded in 1968. But I would make their funding conditional on their adopting a policy of admitting whichever applicants lived nearest, regardless of religion. Otherwise, they’d have to go private, without charitable status and with 20 per cent VAT on fees.
