I would like to register my objection to the advert for the National School Quiz, initiated by Becta, as it is a terrible example of stereotyping of scientists as some sort of mad geniuses who are not like ordinary people (the advert, in the February 19 issue, featured a cartoon of a grey-haired eccentric in a lab coat). This seems to me to be giving out totally the wrong message to our students of what science is about.
