During May and June over a billion people will watch the World Cup, when 32 countries play in Japan and South Korea for one of the most prized trophies in sport. Virtually every nation in the world played in the qualifying rounds, and the list of finalists offers opportunities for activities across the curriculum.

Pages 28 to 31 contain activities for pupils that you can use directly or adapt for your own use.

Pages 32 and 33 are aimed at teachers, and are about how schools can organise their own mini “World Cup” tournament. A score card to photocopy or adapt is included in these pages, and can also be used with a maths activity on page 29.
