Rita Weller, of Avonmore primary, in west London, one of two heads awarded the top honour in the New Year list. Education professionals took one in ten of the awards as teachers, canteen supervisors, caretakers, professors and quango chiefs were recognised. Mrs Weller, appointed a dame, paid tribute to past and present staff.
