Good design involves appearance as well as function. Detail in Product Design is a set of A3-sized resources for pupils at key stages 3 and 4 on this theme. The cards are precise and unpretentious, but full of suggestive ideas and clear principles. Featuring items such as torches and kettles, they look at the ways line, shape, form, texture and colour can be imaginatively varied to serve a useful purpose. We see how handles can be defined for human fingers or how dark shades can give a sense of weightiness, and experience genuine pleasure as we learn.
