In “Educating businesses” (7 September), Joseph Lee writes about small businesses and apprenticeships. My son runs a one-man business so I mentioned the apprentice grant to him as a possible income while training someone else. He thought it was a joke. He said it would no way cover costs and to take an apprentice on at that rate would mean running at a loss.
