For every class in every school, there should be at least one period a week of quiet reading when pupils can read anything they like - including the things confiscated by Paul Warnes (TES, January 11). I would no more ban them than read them. As an old Beano reader, I was glad to see the Bash Street Kids are still going strong, though I still say it hasn’t been the same since Dad lost his slipper, and teacher his cane. I also say sneering at the Kids as bad role models is not so much pompous as paranoid.
