Easing the transition

When children move from primary to secondary school, they often worry about finding their way. Year 6 children in South Yorkshire will be encouraged by Get Going!, a cheerful booklet that confronts and allays their anxieties about using public transport.

It deals with topics like safety at stops, dealing with staff and fellow passengers and keeping your pass or ticket safe. There is also sensible advice on interpreting timetables and a quiz about the environmental impact of buses and trams. Get Going! is part of the Junior SAFEmark programme and is free for schools in the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive area. For a teaching pack, write to PO Box 801, Exchange St, Sheffield S2 5YT.
