GCSE students developing writing for specific purposes could try using the articles and the websites as source material, design an A4 flyer supporting a campaign to return the Elgin Marbles to Athens.
In structuring their work, students might consider:
* the morality and legality of Elgin’s motives and actions
* the legitimacy of the British Museum’s claim to ownership
* the generous terms offered by Greece
* the cultural and political benefits of restoring the Marbles to their original context
* the precedents established by the return of other artefacts to their countries of origin
* the ease of sharing with the whole world, via the internet, images of the restored marbles.
