I have been censured for raising my voice in lessons to disruptive students and using phrases containing mild expletives, such as “pissed off”. Apparently I must find calmer ways to placate disruptive students. Are we now so wrapped up in the virtues of meeting impossible learning objectives that administering a firm disciplinarian hand is outlawed?

Constructive criticism is better than censure. Anger often makes the situation worse but all teachers will get angry sometime. Some say students today have less respect for their teachers, but was there really such a glorious past? If students continue to be disruptive, they must be excluded. However, you must uphold high standards, including using non-inflammatory language.
