A recent leader in The Express called on the Government to use some of the unexpected billions generated from the sell-off of the airwaves for the next generation of mobile phones to be used for ICT in schools. Sir Cyril Taylor, chairman of the Technology Colleges Trust, thinks it is a good idea, adding that high-speed Internet links should be a high priority. Offline agrees, ut what about helping teachers get their own laptop too? An economic way to do so would be emulating the idea put forward by Maine governor Angus King (TES Online, April) and set up a trust fund, using the income generated to lease machines for teachers. The Treasury is keeping quiet on how the money will be spent.
