KS3

As a starter activity, see who can produce the largest number of plausible answers to the question “What do you do in your bedroom?”.

Use the sleepstakes chart to practise numbers and comparison. Who sleeps the mostleast?

With older students extend the mundane “daily routine” topic to include more interesting information: Who talks in their sleep?

* Who snores?

* Who sleep-walks?

* How often do they dream?

KS4 A GCSE higher-level writing task (eg an accident or a holiday), presented as a dream, offers more scope for creativity and perhaps a touch of humour.

Able candidates could also brainstorm the consequences of insufficient sleep. Encourage them to recycle familiar language - eg tired, bad-tempered, sleeping in class, dangerous at the wheel.
