Notre Dame High in Glasgow is doing innovative work on developing the four capacities in Curriculum for Excellence, which is cited in its new HMIE report as an example of good practice. In 2004-05, the school introduced a weekly slot in its S2 timetable to develop creativity, integrating ICT and promoting confidence. The “Creative Curriculum”, which encourages pupils’ initiative, problem solving and ownership of learning, provides high-quality cross-curricular experiences led by a team of teachers from different disciplines. In 2006-07, the model was extended to S1, with a focus on literacy, challenge and enjoyment. The school has also developed assessment processes to reflect pupil, staff and peer evaluation. This session, the work is being audited against CfE outcomes and experiences from technologies; literacy; and health and well-being.
