The theme of this year’s events is The World We Live In, so pupils will be encouraged to think about issues such as the environment, storytelling, tolerance, social and racial justice, bullying and politics.
Workshops and discussions are planned to accompany screenings and will be led by experts from a range of backgrounds, including the British Board of Film Classification, Amnesty International, Friends of the Earth, film criticism and marketing.
Films to be shown include The Battle of Algiers (1966), Woody Allen’s Manhattan (1979), and more recent releases such as An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore’s documentary on global warming, Notes on a Scandal, starring Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett (pictured), and winner of the Oscar for best foreign language film The Lives of Others.
