I agree with Warwick Mansell (“Good education or a form of control?” TES, February 8) that the curriculum is becoming ever more assessment-driven. The huge chunks of time typically devoted to exam preparation exposes the Government’s obsession with independent learning as disingenuous at best, and fraudulent at worst. Free-thinking teachers increasingly seek refuge in extra-curricular activities that enable them to express their creativity and passion in a test-free zone.
