ALLEZ FRANCE. By Claire Deshmukh. Pack of 199 photocopy masters. Revised edition. European Schoolbooks Pounds 39.95. Age range 11-14
The pages of Allez-France reminded me of every worksheet I have hurriedly prepared on basic topics for lower school French. The difference is that these are professionally produced with better illustrations.
Topics covered are French geography, numbers and colours, days and months, weather, animals, the house, classroom, clothes, transport, cafe, shopping, sport and school. For each topic there are at least six worksheets and some of the larger topics, such as shopping, have more.
The pack saves time by grouping sheets on the same topic so there are plenty of tasks to keep even fast workers busy. Activities include joining words to pictures, drawing and colouring, multiple choice and lots of copying. There is rarely anything more complicated than a mots croises, and there is room for weaker writers.
Since the activities rarely demand more than one-word answers, there is probably not enough to challenge brighter students. But for special needs pupils, or primary French beginners, the worksheets will be invaluable.
