A new DVD should help Gaelic early-years staff make the most of Curriculum for Excellence.

The resource, launched by Education Secretary Michael Russell last week, includes film clips of real examples and suggestions for using play-based and active learning across the eight areas of the curriculum.

Mr Russell said: “Children learning Gaelic in the earliest years of their education have the best opportunity to be able to use the language in everyday life. That’s why this is a key part of our drive to increase the number of young Gaelic speakers and ensure the language thrives.”

Copies of the DVD, produced by Learning and Teaching Scotland, have been sent to all schools and nurseries that provide Gaelic-medium education.

The Scottish Government used the launch to highlight once again its Engage for Education website, which allows users to read blogs from ministers, post comments, and get involved in workshops on educational issues.
