Not such an outlandish idea according to research by TEEM (Teachers Evaluating Educational Multimedia). Apparently, simulations and adventures can develop children’s thinking. This 48-page report has been placed in the resources section of the free TEEM website. Find out about the relative value of different computer games and how boys’ and girls’ behaviour differs. The British Library has more than 150 million items in its collection, according to its website which has just been approved by the National Grid for Learning. This site helps you make the most of documents which include the complete Magna Carta.

www.bl.uk ...as well as literacy Still at the British Library, in its Living Words site for education, you can find a cross-curricular resource for literacy called Words Alive! Aimed at key stages 1 to 3, it was developed by Camden and Torbay LEAs and contains five projects.

www.education.bl.uk Citizenship update Gemini will be a free website on what’s coming for citizenship in September. Meanwhile, it helps make room in the current curriculum for collaborative projects between UK and overseas schools. A charitable venture, it started last year with a communications project involving schools in Uganda. When it is fully up and running, schools will register via an ordinary browser and will be able to download software to take part in videoconferencing on the net.

Launched at the BETT technology show just over a year ago, 2,300 schools are already participating in this online gallery. www.walkersshowcase.co.uk Have faith For information on Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism and philosophy and ethics it’s worth paying a visit to the World Religions website, aimed at secondary students. There are pages for each religion with introductory materials. It’s a work in progress and more will be added. There are also resources for teachers along with projects for Years 8 and 9.
