Daily maths for the Global Citizen at Year 6, term 3 and Year 7, term 1. By Dylan Theodore et al. Water Aid pound;5. Eureka! Tel: 020 7793 4513.

Water Aid (a charity dedicated to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene for the world’s poorest people) has produced a superb teaching pack that will motivate, inspire - and perhaps make very angry - Y6 or Y7 pupils.

The main focus is data handling, but children will also use, create and deploy in argument percentages, measures and ratio.

Schools could use this, post SATS, extending the Framework and expanding the range of pupils’ mathematical experience, or as part of a cross-curricular study of water or of Nepal, where the case study is set.

Politics, global citizenship, democracy, persuasive argument backed up by hard facts presented effectively - these are what this pack is about. The maths is impeccable and cross-referenced to the Framework.

A glossy, spiral-bound book contains the teaching ideas for 10 days’ work (but I can see it expanding once enthusiasm takes hold).

In a wallet are three posters of maps and photographs of Bhaldanda, where Sushma lives with her family.

Children in the developing world are particularly affected by lack of water supplies since the task of collecting it is usually theirs, taking the place of education or other childhood pursuits: 1.4 billion people lack access to safe water near their homes.

Here is your chance to do something about it - send for this pack today. Inspiring, involving, relevant, it leaves standing the material we commonly offer to children in maths lessons.
