We appear to have empowered an army of pedants (Letters, December 1825) and, in their eyes, any school that does not meet the squeaky-clean model they see as optimal is consigned to the tellingly patronising category “special measures”. But the conformity they demand of schools threatens the very thing they say they want: a better education for the UK’s children - dogs and door-handles notwithstanding.
