More than a third of grandparents spend the equivalent of three days a week caring for their grandchildren, an ICM poll for the Guardian has shown.
A third of grandmothers spend more than 26 hours a week with their children’s ofspring compared with 21 per cent of grandfathers. Harriet Harman, who chairs the Government’s Childcare Commission, said its report in January would recommend that childcare tax credits should be payable to grandparents.
