Grid gets cash boost

The National Grid for Learning will get a Pounds 105 million injection to help develop its content and infrastructure. David Blunkett, the Education Secretary, announced the funding as part of a package worth almost Pounds 500 million designed to cut truancy, unruly classroom behaviour and unnecessary exclusions.

He said the Government was investing more in the Grid because new technology allowed more benefit to be obtained from education spending.One measure to reduce the number of pupils truanting will be introducing computerised registration facilities to help monitor attendance.
