Although milk is the main focus of Healthy Choices, there’s room for fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, beans and pulses too. Ten colourful A3 information sheets explain the nature of a balanced diet and then invite children at key stages 12 to combine items to make a set of nourishing meals or to invent alternatives for a range of popular junk foods. Scientific concepts like States of Matter and Irreversible Changes are explored through activities such as separating curds from whey or altering the texture of ice cream through repeated beating. Healthy Choices is produced by the Milk Development Council and is available from Education Direct, PO Box 105, Rochester ME2 4BE.
