AUSTRALIA: An elite private girls’ school has been called “heartless” for suing a widowed mother who was unable to pay her daughter’s fees. For seven years, the girl attended the Methodist Ladies’ College, Melbourne, paying more than $100,000 (pound;35,000) in fes, friends said. But she left before her final year when her father’s business collapsed. Soon after he died of leukaemia leaving his wife with no money. The school said it would be unfair to other parents to waive the fees and the court agreed.
