No. Qualified teacher status (QTS) awarded in Scotland is recognised in England. But you will need to learn more about the English design and technology curriculum to ensure that you are confident when applying for jobs. This should also be identified as an early objective and area for support in your individualised induction programme.
I am due to finish my PGCE in July. I am dyslexic and concerned about the literacy tests. I was told that I have to complete these by the end of April, but can I leave them until I’ve finished my course?
You don’t need to do the tests before the end of April, but leaving them until after your course is not a good idea. You cannotget QTS without them. It’s important that you book them as soon as possible, to allow yourself time to resit - you are allowed four attempts at each test. When you register you’ll be asked to provide some personal data. Include information about your dyslexia as you can receive an extra 25 per cent of time for your disability. To prepare, support materials on CD-Roms can help you practise the types of questions that will be asked. Learn to work quickly as the tests have a time limit.
