Pupils put themselves in the position of Roman invaders, or an advance party of scouts, in the first century AD. A visit to Flag Fen (or a virtual visit: www.flagfen.com) should provide enough material to write home describing this new land and people.
Ask students to consider the view that Oliver Cromwell’s character and religious beliefs were profoundly shaped by his life in the region. An excellent starting place would be the feature film Cromwell or one of the many TV documentaries about him. Another good starting place is the Cromwell Society’s website www.olivercromwell.org
