Budget tablets hit the market
PC World and Currys will launch two new Android-run tablet computers next week. The Advent Amico is half an inch thick and has a 7in touch screen, includes a camera and is priced at #163;129.99, while the Advent Vega has a 10.1in screen, a 4GB memory card, 10-hour battery life and will sell for #163;249.99. Currys and PC World, both part of Dixons, will carry the tablets from Monday.
Spy on penguins with Street View
Teachers now have an extra tool to bring lessons on the Antarctic to life after the continent was mapped by Google Street View. The street-mapping program will now feature pictures of Half Moon Island, one of the South Shetland Islands, and its chinstrap penguin, after Antarctica became the latest region to feature on the site. Also now included for the first time are Brazil and Ireland.
HP expands product range
Computer giant Hewlett-Packard is to launch a series of netbooks, laptops and desktop PCs. Among the desktop PCs are the all-in-one Omni, featuring a wireless keyboard and mouse, and the touchscreen Touchsmart range, with some models also including built-in TV. New laptops include the Envy 17, which comes with 3D glasses if you choose the 3D model, and the Envy 14 Beats edition, featuring the latest audio technology, while the Mini 210 netbook is available in a range of colours.
