Tip for teacher job seekers: a little attention to detail goes a long way.

David Benson, head of Cranborne county middle school in Wimborne, Dorset, was a little underwhelmed to receive the following letter from a prospective applicant for a post: “Dear Sir, May you pliz send me an application pack for the post of a numeracymaths teacher. Thank you.”

The stamped addressed envelope had the stamp upside down, the school’s postcode was wrong and, perhaps understandably, the letter was unsigned.
