The village will be the hub of key aspects of Scottish education, including the national priorities, the National Grid for Learning Scotland, the Scottish Schools Digital Network and future learning and teaching projects.

The focal point will be the two presentation zones where demonstrations of teaching resources and web-based services for early years, primary schools, secondaries and colleges will take place. There will be more than 50 mini-workshops with hands-on sessions and teachers will be able to sit at a computer and try out the software.

“There are quite a few resources being launched at SETT, including digital resources for history, Gaelic, cases studies on the use of information technology, an online course on basic ICT skills for teachers and online access to the British Pathe Archive,” says Bronagh Bell, spokeswoman for Learning and Teaching Scotland.

“These have been developed with NGfL funding and teachers will get the opportunity to try them.”

LT Scotland will launch a Standard grade computing resource, Talk Money Talk Maths, for financial education and a dinosaur maths game for numeracy.

Show visitors can pick up a pocket directory for LT Scotland’s new online service, giving them information on all the websites that make up the service. Probationer teachers can also pick up a new teacher’s bag packed with essential information.

“The village is a huge one-stop shop for education,” says Ms Bell. “It gives a flavour of Scottish education and how we are taking it forward. It is in contrast to the more formal sessions as the ones here will be dynamic and hands-on and all about taking part.

“As SETT becomes the Scottish Learning Festival, we are widening it into more areas of education, not just technology, but technology is the vehicle.”
