NEW Labour’s commitment to Peoplism does not extend to Labour councillors in Leeds. David Blunkett has decided the city’s education services are to be run by a joint venture company, without any help from councillors. Less than pleased, council bigwigs made a informal approach to the Department for Education and Employment to ask whether the decision could be changed. The reply appears to be no and the council now has to decide whether it should continue to press its case through more formal channels.
