A primary school headteacher living a double life as a farmer has witnessed the birth of his first calf.

Nick Dowler, head of Nocton Community Primary School near Lincoln, bought a 12-acre smallholding three years ago. As well as the new calves, lambs are soon due to be born on the farm.

Mr Dowler, who has been teaching for 20 years, told the Lincolnshire Echo: “I’d always been interested in farming ever since I was little.

“However, I was brought up in Stoke-on-Trent, which isn’t the Mecca for farming.

“The chances of making a good living, without owning a farm, were not viable. So I ended up going into teaching.” IB.
