You reported that the National College for School Leadership has changed its name to the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services (“In Brief”, September 18). A few pages later an advertisement featured the new logo.

The logo’s designers (presumably with the leadership’s agreement) have chosen to highlight the words “National” and “College”, leaving the words “Leadership”, “Schools” and “Children” in much smaller type.

This is typical of education quangos. The logo for the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics highlights “National” and “Centre”, with “Excellence”, “Teaching” and “Mathematics” reduced to a considerably smaller font size. What are we to conclude about these bodies’ priorities?

Matthew Handy, Director of mathematics, Dotmaths, York.
