Secondary schools that are making use of the free The Lord of the Rings CD-Rom, which was sent out to 16,000 schools by Film Education, can enter a competition to win a digital editing suite, but they must move quickly. The CD-Rom features a range of activities that enable students to develop movie-making skills such as scriptwriting and narrative sequencing.

To win one of the editing suites, 11 to 16-year-old students must submit individual or group work created using the Active Storyboard section of the CD-Rom. Creators of the three most original scripts can look forward to the delivery of an Adobe Premier editing suite, which usually retails at around pound;540.

Entries should be submitted by December 19 to LOTR, Film Education, Alhambra House, 27-31 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0AU. Full competition details can be found at www.filmeducation.org
