UNITED STATES: The long-time leader of Miami’s teachers’ union has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for using teachers’ subscriptions to finance a luxury lifestyle. Pat Tornillo, 78, who pleaded guilty to mail fraud and filing a false tax return in August, was also ordered to pay the United Teachers of Dade $650,000 (pound;375,000) plus legal and accounting costs, to cover the sum he spent on cruises and jewellery.
