March of the Penguins is a full-length documentary, filmed on location in the Antarctic over a period of 13 months, showing how Emperor Penguins make a vast journey across the continent in order to breed. The related website is full of intriguing activities for primary and secondary age pupils. Younger children can play a game about the penguins’ life cycle, watch clips about ice floes or write an acrostic poem using “waddling words”. Older students can watch an interview with the director or discover precisely how and why the terrain is hostile to humans.
