Toying with skeletons is not everyone’s idea of fun, but it is the preferred gimmick of Cambridge Hands on Science (Chaos), a student society that hopes to entice young pupils to take science degrees by involving them in activities, including learning how rockets fly, how bridges are built, and probing the private lives of bacteria and parasites, and the science of the skeleton.
The Crash, Bang, Squelch! day at Cambridge university’s zoology labs on March 17 will include more than 50 experiments run by local students. Entry is free.
Sophie Candfield, of the society, said: “Chaos was born out of a desire among a small group of science students to channel their abilities to helping children realise the importance and excitement of science, and encourage them to think of it as a career.”
