A college has welcomed the return of four adventurers who will definitely not be dreaming of a white Christmas.

The students and lecturers from West Nottinghamshire college saw enough snow to last a lifetime on an adventure trip to the South Pole.

Robert Dunn, 18, Carl Alvey, 21, and tutors Gary Dodds, 50, and Steve Bull, 35, a former RAF officer, spent 10 days pulling hundreds of kilograms of kit in temperatures which plummeted to minus 32oC.

Robert said: “Sometimes we thought the worst but we always set our sights on getting there. We all knew we would. It is definitely something I’ll never ever forget for the rest of my life.”

Carl added: “When we all got there we put our hands on the pole and I said ‘Thank God we have made it’.”

The group spent 20 months planning and raising funds for the trip, collecting pound;140,000, mainly from private sponsors.
