Learning to teach the lingo
Jeremy Harmer’s Essential Teacher Knowledge, published by Pearson, is a manual for new teachers of English as a foreign language (EFL), ranging from core language concepts to lesson planning and activities.
What is it?
A textbook with DVD and online material including grammar, lexis, pronunciation, theory of teaching, managing learners and how to plan, use resources and assess pupils.
Why is it useful?
Chapters are separated into units, with highlighted vocabulary and short sample texts that can be used to test comprehension. Each unit concludes with teaching ideas, common problems and suggestions. Lesson plans are included. The DVD contains videos of teachers sharing their experiences and audio recordings for pronunciation exercises.
What teachers say
“This resource covers everything I need as a new EFL teacher. It’s great while studying, but also fantastic to dip into for lesson plan inspiration - an invaluable source.”
