Excellence in ICT
BCS (the chartered institute for IT) and Computing at School are looking for 250 schools to be part of their Network of Teaching Excellence in Computer Science.
What is it?
On the back of the Michael Gove’s speech at the 2012 BETT education technology show about proposed changes to ICT in schools, the initiative aims to ensure a high standard of computer science teaching throughout the UK.
Schools that become members of the network will:
- be offered enhanced continuing professional development for one teacher in their school;
- be part of a teaching community that shares best practice;
- teach computer science at key stages 3 or 4 and help to develop a renewed computing curriculum;
- have opportunities to showcase their teaching practices and experiences at national conferences and in promotional material;
- be consulted for their views and opinions on educational policy.
All members will be expected to help other schools teach computer science.
How can you get involved?
Information packs are being sent out to every secondary school in England. Schools need to register their interest by 30 April. More details can be found at www.bcs.orgCSteachingexcellence.
