Fewer teachers feel their pupils got the right GCSE grades last summer than the previous year, a report from Ofqual shows.

While 86 per cent of teachers said that all or most of their pupils got the right grade in 2010, just 77 per cent agreed 12 months later. Topping the list of reasons for a lack of confidence were concerns over controlled assessment, which a previous Ofqual report found had led to a drop in the amount of teaching time.

At A level, 87 per cent of teachers felt most students got the grade their performance deserved - up from 80 per cent the previous year. At 76 per cent, fewer young people than teachers agreed that most pupils got the grade they should. The findings were based on a poll of 500 teachers and 2,098 pupils and parents.
